Hamburger Mary's
The Chicago branch of this burger chain opened yesterday in Andersonville. It is a gay hamburger chain, which can be found in gayborhouds in cities around the country. And all of my hood was atwitter with the news of the opening last night, that's why there was a bit of a wait to be seated, and the anticipation after waiting for about 6 months for the place to open.
And, the wait was worth it.
The offer up big huge yummy burgers, and some other sammies and salads and appetizers and stuff. The menu is uber-gay and so are the servers and most of the customers. This is a sign that A-ville is turning into the new Boystown, slowly but surely.
For being their first day, there were very few glitches and the owners, gay identical twins, came around and said hello a couple of times, but they also know a friend of ours. And they even brougth us a few more of the olives that are stuffed with asiago cheese and fried that we loved.
The burgers can be a little pricey, especially for my friend, RJ, who ordered the Elvis Burger with a buffalo burger, totalling 13.95.
I will for sure be back and hope they continue to do great business.
Grade: A

Ate at the branch in Phoenix a few months back and was similarly impressed. Good times.
Ooh! This brings a new meaning to the word "beefaroni"! I hope they have veggie burgers though.....
What street is this place on, Clark?
We have one in the San Deigo gayborhood of Hillcrest and it is the epicenter of gay. The food here is so-so, the restaurant itself is 15 years old so the interior is kind of supernast and strangely enough doubles as a country western bar complete with nightly line dancing (no word of lie) but the patio is as Noah would say "off the hizook!" Me and my BF are proud "mary hags."
huh...i have been to the one iin San Diego and one somewhere else. I'm surprised it took Chicago this long, I mean cincinnati has one! either way, I'm glad it was a good dinning experience despite the pricey elvis burger.
gay identical twins?
sacrilege.
I've been to the ones in San Diego, Palms Springs, and West Hollywood.. The bugers are good. I also recommend the ridiculously oversized pot pie if it's on the Chicago menu.
Hamburger Mary's bores me now. Where's a new blog entry? Something must have happened to you in the last 4 days!!!
I liked it. The buffalo burger is def worth the extra $3. YUMMY! RJ
wow! i just ate the hamburger mary's twice this past weekend in palm springs. we sat outside by the misters. the waiters were all cute. the first time, i had a veggie sandwich with the fruit bowl. the second time, i splurged and had the veggie avocado burger with seasoned fries. i'm SO fat now! seriously, those burgers are like half a cow! it was especially memorable because i sat next to the man of my dreams who is from boston... i'm totally going to be single for the rest of my life, aren't i?
I hear that Ashley is wicked hot. ;)
Thanks for the post! I'm glad you had a good time and hope you come back soon... We'll have the patio open in a couple weeks! Oh, and yes Jamie, I am hot... you single?
